Have an early start to the day tomorrow. Leaving for the airport at 5:30 am.

Day 10 - Crathes Castle and on to Edinburgh

Crathes Castle has been my favorite castle. It's exactly what you expect a castle to be with winding staircases. The gardens here are wonderful too!

After another 3 hour drive we arrive in Edinburgh were we will stay for the final three nights of our tour.

Busy day today.  Started out with a 3 hour drive to Cawdor Castle. What fun to see a castle referenced by Shakespeare in Macbeth. (Even though it was not really Cawdor)

Next after a short drive we arrive at Culloden Battlefield.  I will be the first to admit I am not very aquatinted with Scottish History other than what I have seen on tv or movies.  Was a nice visit.

Addendum to day 8

After dinner I met Chris Halliday, a genealogist. We met via The Celtic Guide, an online publication. Was very interesting finding out much our countries have in common and our differences.

Roads are marked very clearly here in Scotland. There are also some different signs. We saw an Otter crossing sign, old folks sign. Chris told me there is a sign with ropes and that signifies there are ropes above the road for the red squirrels to cross. Our grey squirrels are really taking over so in an effort to save the red squirrels from being squashed on the road there are ropes for them to cross on.

Wish I would not have been so tired last night when we met. Was really great of Chris to take time away from his family to chat with me.

Day 7 - Glengoyne Distillery and Loch Lomond

Another long travel day and no gardens today.  First stop Glengoyne and I can not believe I drank both samples of whiskey. Still shocked. Glengoyne was very nice.

Next stop was a nice cruise on the beautiful Loch Lomond.  From the cruise we continued on to Ullapool for the night. Loch Lomond is much prettier than Loch Ness.

Did not reach Ullapool until 9:45pm. Long, long day.
